More than 120 people rescued after flash flooding in Northern Ireland

Torrential rain has led to localised flooding and disruption throughout parts of Northern Ireland.

Heavy rain and flash-floods swept across the region on Tuesday evening.

In Londonderry, local residents worked to try to protect homes and businesses from the rising flood water.

Between 7pm and 11pm firefighters in Northern Ireland responded to 60 flooding incidents and rescued a number of motorists from their cars.

Coastguard Rescue Teams along with Lough Neagh Rescue Swiftwater Rescue Teams assisted in the emergency response. At one point a Coastguard helicopter from Sligo was tasked to an incident involving people trapped in a car in flood water in Co Tyrone.

A number of roads remained impassable on Wednesday morning and police have warned road users to exercise caution across parts of Tyrone and Derry.
